These dates are provisional
SASSA has not yet published the confirmed December 2026 schedule. Permanent grants are expected in the first week, and SRD batches are expected to start around 23 December. This page will be updated when SASSA confirms.
December is the busiest payment month of the year. Permanent grants are expected on the same first-week pattern used all year: Older Persons on Wednesday 2 December, Disability on Thursday 3 December, and Children's grants on Friday 4 December. The festive-season change is on the SRD side, where SASSA has in recent years started batches before Christmas so beneficiaries are not left waiting until the last week of December.

Will December grants be paid early?
For permanent grants, the answer is usually no. SASSA has kept pension, disability and children's payments in the first week of December in recent years. What changes is the SRD schedule: batches that would normally run from the 25th are pulled forward so that approved beneficiaries receive money before Christmas Day.
That means you should not budget on a pension payment arriving in mid-December. If your November Older Persons grant was paid on 30 October, your next pension payment is the 2 December date — roughly five weeks later. Plan that gap carefully.
Festive-season collection tips
- Collect on the second or third day after your pay date if you can. The first morning is always the busiest, and December queues are longer than usual.
- Retail pay points inside supermarkets often move faster than standalone ATMs during the festive rush.
- Bank transfers can take an extra working day between Christmas and New Year. Card collection at a till is more predictable.
- You do not have to withdraw everything at once. Money left on your card or in your account stays there indefinitely.
- Keep your card and PIN private, especially in crowded pay points. Never let a stranger 'help' you at an ATM.
Public holidays that affect December
Day of Reconciliation (16 December) falls after the first-week payments, so it does not shift permanent grants. Christmas Day (25 December) and Day of Goodwill (26 December) close SASSA offices and most banks. If you have a review, appeal or card problem, resolve it before 24 December — offices reopen only after the long weekend, and New Year's Day adds another closure.
Festive-season scam peak
December brings fake 'Christmas bonus', 'double payout' and 'early SRD release' messages. SASSA does not pay bonuses of any kind and never asks for your ID number, card PIN, OTP or a fee to release a grant. Delete the message and report the number to 0800 60 10 11.
What are the SASSA payment dates for December 2026?
Provisionally: Older Persons on Wednesday 2 December 2026, Disability on Thursday 3 December, Children's grants on Friday 4 December, review cases on Monday 7 December, and SRD R370 batches from 23 to 31 December. Confirm final dates with SASSA closer to the month.
Will SASSA pay December grants early?
Permanent grants are expected on their normal first-week dates. SASSA has not announced an early pension payout. SRD batches are expected to start around 23 December so money lands before Christmas, but this is provisional.
When will SRD be paid in December 2026?
Expected from 23 December, with batches running through 31 December. Your exact date depends on your batch and is shown in the SRD portal. SASSA has not yet confirmed the December SRD schedule.
Are SASSA offices open between Christmas and New Year?
No. Offices close for Christmas Day (25 December) and Day of Goodwill (26 December), and activity is limited around those dates. New Year's Day (1 January) is also a public holiday. Sort urgent matters before 24 December.
Do grant amounts increase in December?
No. Grant amounts change in April, not December. Any message promising a December bonus, double payout or festive increase is a scam.
I cannot collect in December. Will my money be lost?
No. Money not collected stays on your SASSA card or in your bank account indefinitely. There is no December deadline and no penalty for collecting in January.
